Sign-Up Now! NLS and DYLC
Hello everyone,
I would like to personally ask each and every one of you to consider a leadership course offered by the Eastern Region. The youth can attend the National Leadership Seminar, or NLS, and the adults are able to attend the Developing Youth Leadership Conference.
The National Leadership Seminar (NLS) is a weekend training program focusing on leadership development. Run by the Region Chief and his Advisers, it provides an in-depth look at leadership skills and techniques. You will learn how these skills can be applied in your role in the OA and in other aspects of your life. The National Leadership Seminar is a weekend conference on the skills and attributes of leadership. It is intended primarily to enhance the leadership skills of the Order of the Arrow’s key youth and adult members as they seek to improve their services to the Boy Scouts of America and the greater community. Near the end of the seminar, participants make a contract with themselves to apply the skills studied in the seminar on projects in their lodge, council, and community.
Adults age 21 and older are eligible to attend the Developing Youth Leadership Conference (DYLC) and do not necessarily need to have previously attended NLS but it is recommended. Adults who are currently or will soon hold a lodge-level or chapter-level adviser position are encouraged to attend DYLC. The NLS training is open to anyone seeking to hone their leadership skills applicable to Scouting as well as daily life.
The course dates and locations for NLS and DYLC 2024 are as follows:
- January 26–28 in Columbia, South Carolina
- February 16–18 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico
- March 8–10th in Loveland, Ohio
- September 13–15th in Alpine, New Jersey
- November 1–3 in Thompson's Station, Tennessee
You can go to the National Order of the Arrow Event Registration System of NOAERS and select which course you choose and sign up there. Click the link to be directed to the NOAERS National Order of the Arrow Event Registration System.
NLS Scholarship Opportunity: Section E6 is offering a half scholarship to five Arrowmen who apply. The scholarship will cover half the cost of NLS. You can go to the section website and find the application under the NLS tab, and at the bottom of the page will be the application. You can also click the link Section E6: NLS and DYLC, and it will direct you to the right page.
Chief Thought: I attended NLS in Alabama in 2022, and I can easily say it was one of the best scouting experiences I've ever had. I created lifelong bonds with arrowmen from all across the region that I would've never had otherwise. Not to mention the skills I learned from NLS allowed me to provide a better and more enjoyable experience for the brothers around me once I returned home to Mowogo. I highly encourage you to attend, and honestly, I encourage you to attend the one in South Carolina because it's the earliest one and the closest for a while. The other ones are either quite a trip or all the way in November.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or any of the section officers.
P.S. Chapters can earn black bear points for having their members attend NLS/DYLC.
Yours in Service,
Alex Sutter
