Brothers,

This has been a difficult week for Scouts and families in the Currahee District.

On August 27th, Heidi Groce passed away. Her son, Crawford, is a member of our Lodge. He completed his Ordeal in March at Spring Induction and attended Pre-Camp, where he worked with our dining hall staff. Heidi was very active within our District and Council, serving as the event coordinator for many Cub Scout camps. Her obituary can be viewed at this link: https://www.barrettfh.com/obituary/heidi-groce

Wes Dodd passed away on Sept. 1st. Wes was an active supporter of Scouts in our District and Council for decades. Although it has been many years since Wes was active in our Lodge, some of our Lodge members will remember him. His arrangements are not yet finished, but his obituary is available at this link: https://memorials.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com/wesley-avery-wes-dodd-jr/4712497/index.php?_ga=2.74019538.1399319744.1630522318-890838821.1625833964

Tragically, Courtney Zajdowicz also passed away on Sept. 1st. She is the daughter of David Cross and sister to Dominic Cross. David and Dominic are both members of our Lodge and are still active with Troop 6 in Rabun County. Her obituary can be viewed at this link: https://www.beckfuneralhome.com/obituary/Courtney-Zajdowicz

I'm sorry to send this information, but I feel that it's important to share this with everyone. We are truly saddened by this. Please pray for the families and friends of these individuals.

Jutaculla Chapter Adviser, Mowogo Lodge

Upcoming Lodge Events

Hello, fellow Wearers of the Arrow.

I hope you’re all doing well as summer break ends and school begins.
I’d like to tell you about our two upcoming lodge events, Pow Wow and Indian Summer.

On the 21st of this month is Indian Summer, a day of service and fellowship at Camp Rotary in Hartwell GA. The morning will be spent providing service to the camp and the afternoon will have various Indian Affairs Activities. Lunch and dinner will be provided. The cost is $25 and the registration deadline is Wednesday the 18th, so make sure you sign up now! https://mowogo.org/joom39/forms-and-links/event-registration

Pow Wow is taking place September 17th-19th. Pow Wow is one of the largest and most attended lodge events we have. The event is focused on fun and fellowship, it’s like our lodge’s version of Camporee. You can enjoy a weekend of games and competitions between the chapters for the coveted Black Bear.

In the morning we’ll have training cells, an opportunity to learn and earn points for your chapter. In the afternoon we’ll have games, some past examples are: Tug of War, Ultimate Frisbee, Wischixin, Waguli Stick, A Plunger Relay and more. All games are played Tournament Style with each chapter competing for third, second and first place, each higher place earning more points towards the Black Bear.

One of the more important things at Pow Wow is Lodge Officer elections. If you want to have a say in who your 2022 Lodge Chief and Lodge Officers are, you’ll need to attend and stay until Sunday morning!

A final item worth noting is that as of last year we offer Brotherhood conversion at Pow Wow. That means if you went through your Ordeal at Spring Fellowship this year, you’re eligible for Brotherhood. All you have to do is check a box when you sign up that says, “Converting to Brotherhood.” Your OA Handbook lists the requirements. Make sure you get those done before Pow Wow and you’re all set.

Register before September 10th to avoid the late fee and remember that registration closes on Wednesday the 15th! Sign up at: https://mowogo.org/joom39/forms-and-links/event-registration
I hope to see you there!

In the evening after dinner, there will be a camp fire to thank all the participants who came to help out and learn, and it will end with a Re-Dedication Ceremony. A downloadable schedule is available via a link below.
